After taking down No. 2 ranked Georgia last week, there is no doubt that LSU football has improved on all sides of the ball since last season. But, the group that has improved the most dramatically since then is the kicking squad.
“It gives us a lot of confidence,” Head Coach Ed Orgeron said. “I just keep on telling them to get it to the 33 [yard line], and we’re gonna kick it. When you walk away with points at the end of a drive, it gives your team confidence.”
Transfer placekicker Cole Tracy became the second LSU player ever to make five field goals in a game, which earned him SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time this season.
“I think that [my field goals] helped put confidence in our team,” Tracy said. “That’s what I want to do. Help my team out in every way that I can.”
Perhaps one reason that the kicking has improved so much this season is because of the brotherhood that has developed between all of the kickers.
“The strongest kicking group that I’ve ever been a part of,” Tracy said. “We’re all great buddies. I think you can see it on the field. We’re all just having fun and enjoying our time and living in the moment.”
