Update: 4:40PM
LSU has sent a statement via social media to several students that reached out regarding the incident.
The statement says, “LSU is committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming environment for all students. We have reached out to the student in question and will take the appropriate steps based on the details of the situation.”
A photo has gone viral of LSU student Patty Martinez.
Martinez was seen in a Snapchat post of her holding a stuffed monkey with a makeshift noose around its neck. The picture was captioned “Just crafting with the girls,” to fellow LSU student, Madeline McCollister’s account.
The controversial picture has gone viral on social media and has since been deleted from McCollister’s Snapchat story.
Twitter users have called for Patty to be expelled because of the ‘racist’ picture, as well as McCollister for taking the picture.
McCollister issued an apology saying, “I would like to offer my sincerest apology from my earlier post. It did not occur to me that the pic was offensive. As soon as that was pointed out, I took it down. I now realize it was insensitive and have been educated on the the why. Again, I offer my apologies.”
