This week on the Easter Egg I chose Plok!, mostly as a segue to talk about Tim Follin. Plok is a platformer for the SNES, released in 1993. You play as Plok, a character that can launch his limbs at enemies and switches to progress through the game. Reviews were generally positive but definitely recognized the soundtrack as one of the best aspects of the game. Which brings me to Tim Follin, the composer for Plok and many other games. Tim Follin is a video game composer who worked on a large number of games, mostly in the commodore 64 and NES era. He has worked on some prominent games, such as Ecco the dolphin, but he is probably most well known for his work on smaller games, such as Solstice, Silver Surfer, and Plok. He is heavily influenced by progressive rock but tends to let the game itself influence the style of music he makes. He has a mastery of the sound chips from these older consoles and I highly recommend checking out his discography.
