LSU baseball lost its top recruit, infielder Brice Turang to the Milwaukee Brewers, after weeks of speculation that the late first round pick could wind up in Baton Rouge.

Turang was once thought to be the No.1 pick, but was selected with the 21st overall pick in the 2018 draft after an up and down senior year.

Coach Paul Mainieri initially thought the school had no chance of luring Turang to LSU, but after he fell to the late first round, there was reason for hope as his asking price was considerably higher than the pick value of $3 million. No official number has been released but its expected that Turang signed for at least that.

LSU still has one of the top recruiting classes in the country on top of junior outfielder Antoine Duplantis, sophomore outfielder Zach Watson and pitcher Zack Hess, all of whom are accompanying Mainieri for Team USA this summer.

The Tigers loaded up on pitchers and catchers in the 2018 signing class including pitchers Landon Marceaux, Cole Henry, Jaden Hill, Easton McMurray, outfielder Giovanni DiGiacomo and three catchers Bryce Mathis, Saul Garza and C.J. Willis.
