As Tropical Storm Gordon approaches the gulf coast, many people are preparing for the worst.  
“After Katrina you stay anxious when you hear about ‘em.” 
While some stock up on food and water for the potential category one hurricane, others are enjoying a day off of school. Parents were notified around 6:30 P.M. Monday night that all schools in St. Tammany Parish would be closed on Tuesday.  
“All of the public schools are closed, and I know a number of the private schools yesterday had said that they were closed as well,” a parent said.
However, school closures mean some parents cannot make it to work. Patricia Russell, the office manager of Crossroads Behavioral Health in Hammond, Louisiana, says an employee could not make it to work today because of the school closures in New Orleans. 
“Her child is in daycare and she couldn’t come in today because they were closed,” Russell said.
This is not the only problem Crossroads Behavioral Health is facing, although. Potential road closures in southeast Louisiana are making it difficult for patients to get to their appointments too.  
“About 6-8 have already called in and cancelled for either today or tomorrow,” Russell said.
The business is also worried about losing power. 
“The issue will be if we have electricity go out. We cannot call in prescriptions because we electronically send prescriptions.” 
Only time will tell how bad this storm will be. Depending on its severity, schools could also be closed on Wednesday. Despite school closures in many parishes around Louisiana, LSU announced that students will still have classes.
