LSU head coach Ed Orgeron announced Thursday afternoon that junior cornerback Kristian Fulton has been reinstated by the NCAA. He will be able to play in the season-opener against Miami on Sept. 2.
“I’m so proud of the young man,” Orgeron said. “I know our team will be elated. It’s the ultimate story of competing.”
Fulton was suspended in February 2017 for using someone else’s urine sample during a drug test.
The reinstatement comes after athletic director Joe Alleva sent a four-page letter to the NCAA on Aug. 17. Alleva pointed out that Fulton substituted his urine, which constitutes only a one-year suspension. Tampering with a sample, what Fulton was originally suspended for, is a two-year suspension.
“I wanna thank Joe Alleva and compliance for working so hard,” Orgeron said. “I wanna thank Kristian Fulton and his family for all the work they’ve done, believing in Kristian.”
