The Daily Reveille Editorial Board received national recognition in May after placing as a finalist in the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards for three editorials written in the summer and fall of 2017:
- UREC ‘leisure pool’ expansion frivolous use of student fees
- Alexander right to suspend LSU Greek Life activities
- LSU needs to do more following Michael Nickelotte’s suicide
The Reveille won six first place awards and was a finalist for seven awards for its editorials, website, news and sports reporting from 2017 in the SPJ Mark of Excellence awards and Louisiana-Mississippi Associated Press Broadcaster and Media Editors awards.
First place winners for SPJ included:

- Feature Writing (Large) 10,000+ Students — Lost art: Stolen paintings of historic LSU figures still lost after nearly 40 years by William Taylor Potter and Carrie Grace Henderson
- Sports Writing (Large) 10,000+ Students — Coach D-D Breaux recognized for impact, dedication to gymnastics program by Hannah Martin
- Sports Column Writing — Apathy among fans, dwindling attendance a result of a non-elite football program; Despite midseason coaching change, Orgeron hauls in strong class; LSU versus Auburn represents a pivotal point in season all by Chris Caldarera

The SPJ awards were announced at the SPJ12 Conference on March 17 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
First place winners for the LA-Miss. APME awards included:

- Breaking Sports News — ‘I’m pretty dangerous:’ LSU’s DJ Chark shines against Arkansas by Brandon Adam

Second place winners included:
- Enterprise/Investigative Reporting — LSU Phi Delta Theta faced hazing allegations, interim suspension a year before pledge’s death by Natalie Anderson
- Editorial — LSU needs to do more following Michael Nickelotte’s suicide by The Daily Reveille Editorial Board
The APME awards were announced during a luncheon in New Orleans at the World War II museum on April 7.
