The University will be adding a 3 percent merit raise pool to each department, beginning in September. The raise was announced in an email sent to all faculty from LSU President F. King Alexander.
The raise comes after the Louisiana legislature agreed to fully fund TOPS and higher education in June after a third special session was called to balance the state’s budget, resulting in more funding than in previous years. The 2018-19 academic year will be the second consecutive year that both TOPS and higher education are fully funded, which had not happened in a decade prior to 2017-18.
“A university’s worth is measured by the quality of the people who claim it,” Alexander said in the letter. “Your talents and expertise not only produce the art, research, and scholarship that define our academic reputation, but also shape the experiences of our students – the next generation of leaders, thinkers and change-makers.”
The raise will go into effect for hourly employees on Sept. 1, and on Sept. 15 for employees paid on academic year basis, according to the letter.
