Junior cornerback Donte Jackson became LSU’s fourth player to leave the program early for the 2018 NFL draft on Tuesday. 
Jackson announced via Twitter that he will forego his senior season. 
Towards the end of the 2017 season, Jackson knew he had a tough decision to make regarding his future and turned to former LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White for advice. 
“I talk to Tre’Davious White every other day,” Jackson said before the bowl game. “He always tells me, ‘God gave you a gift. Whatever decision you make, you’re blessed.'” 
He said his decision weighed heavily on him, considering the critiques he heard from the outside. 
“I’m already hearing it,” Jackson said. “‘You’re too this. You’re too that. You gave up a play against such and such. You gave up a pass against Chattanooga. You’re not ready for the league.'” 
“Im a rebellious guy. When people tell me I can’t do something I like to defy the odds.”
Jackson started 12 of 13 games in 2017 and recorded 49 total tackles. Jackson has one interception and 10 pass breakups. Last season, Jackson started 11 of 12 games along White and junior Kevin Toliver. 
Jackson spent time all over the LSU’s secondary in his final season, switching to the nickel position to cover the slot receiver and even time at free safety. 
The thing LSU might miss most about Jackson is his speed. 
Considered one of the fastest athletes in college football, Jackson ran track for LSU and was part of the 4×100 SEC Championship relay team in 2017. 
With Jackson, a two-year starter, and Toliver both entering the draft, LSU has some gaps to fill at the cornerback position alongside freshman Greedy Williams. 
Jackson is projected to go in the first round or early second round.
