LSU junior Sarah Finnegan was named Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week and Sami Durante was named SEC Freshman of the Week following the Tigers’ 197.450-196.725 win over Alabama.
This is Finnegan’s second Gymnast of the Week honor, her first coming after LSU’s season opening win over Arkansas.
Finnegan posted 9.90 or better on vault, bars and floor to capture all three event titles. She set career highs on vault with a 9.90 and the uneven bars with a 9.975. Finnegan also tied with LSU senior Myia Hambrick* to take home the all-around title at 39.550.
Durante led off the Tigers’ dominate bars rotation with a career high of 9.90, to tie for the highest bars score by a freshman in the SEC.Durante’s 9.838 average is the highest bars average by any freshman in the SEC.
Durante and Finnegan’s performances on uneven bars contributed to LSU’s 49.625 for the second-highest score in school history.
No. 2 LSU travels to Fort Worth, Texas on Saturday to take on No. 4 UCLA, No. 14 Washington and No. 28 NC State at the Metroplex Challenge.
