BATON ROUGE – Three University students were arrested after they entered Tiger Stadium and tried to make off with some LSU merchandise.
According to arrest records, on Jan. 19 around 3:36 a.m., an officer with the LSU Police Department was called to Tiger Stadium in reference to someone entering the stadium without authorization.
The officer met with a Loften Security officer, who had detained a suspect prior to the officer’s arrival. The man was identified as 18-year-old Michael Freetage.
Freetage was seen roaming around Tiger Stadium while holding LSU merchandise cups in hand, according to arrest records.
The Loften Security Officer said that he found Freetage in the Spirit Squad Room holding the LSU collector’s cups. He had 12 cups in total, valued at $88, according to arrest records.
Freetage was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count simple burglary that same day.
Upon reviewing surveillance footage, three subjects were seen inside Tiger Stadium on the field. Through further investigation, two other suspects were identified as 19-year-old Jacob Phillips and 19-year-old Travis Lecompte.
On Monday, Jan. 22, just before 8:00 a.m., LSUPD made contact with Phillips and Lecompte at their separate dorm rooms in West Hall.
The stolen cups were spotted in plain view in both dorm rooms, according to arrest records.
Both Phillips and Lecompte admitted to being in Tiger Stadium and taking a package of the collector’s cups on Jan. 19, according to arrest records.
Phillips and Lecompte were arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of simple burglary each.
All three are current students at LSU, according to University spokesperson Ernie Ballard.
