LSU junior linebacker Devin White on Tuesday became the first player in program history to win the Dick Butkus Award for the top linebacker in college football.
White beat out Kentucky’s Josh Allen, Michigan’s Devin Bush, Clemson’s Tre Lamar and Alabama Dylan Moses. 
This is the third year in a row a Southeastern Conference linebacker has won the award (Roquan Smith in 2017 and Reuben Foster in 2016).
White is the first LSU player to ever win the award. He was presented the award by Matt Butksu, the son of legendary Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus. 
White was named an All-SEC linebacker by both the Associated Press and SEC coaches this season and ranks second in the SEC in total tackles with 115 and his 12.0 tackles for loss stands No. 10 in the league.
White was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week twice in 2018, after LSU’s win over Georgia and its loss to Texas A&M. 
White now totals 278 career tackles, 29.0 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in his LSU career.
