No. 11 LSU is the first team off the schneid.
The LSU baseball team (17-5, 1-3) snapped a four-game losing streak and added to Georgia’s (9-13, 1-3) now four-game losing streak as freshman Kurt McCune threw a complete game in a 7-3 win Friday.
With the game knotted, 2-2, junior center fielder Mikie Mahtook smacked his first home run since March 4 on a two-run shot to left field, scoring junior third baseman Tyler Hanover.
Mahtook went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
The Tigers broke the game open in the eighth inning, 7-2, when junior shortstop Austin Nola hit a two-out RBI single with Hanover on second base and Mahtook on first. The throw home went passed the catcher and to Georgia sophomore pitcher Alex Wood, who threw over third base, bringing Mahtook and Nola all the way home.
Georgia got one back on McCune (4-0) with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning.
McCune tossed his first complete game, giving up three runs, striking out six and walking just one Bulldog batter.
LSU used the long ball in the second inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead on a solo shot to right field by sophomore right fielder Mason Katz.
Georgia cut the lead in half, 2-1, in the bottom of the second and tied the game, 2-2, in the fifth inning. The Bulldogs started both of those innings with lead-off doubles.
