The University Court ruled Friday afternoon David Jones and Kacey Brister of the “Defining Our Future” Student Government campaign were not in violation of the election code after sending e-mails to garner
support from candidates of the “NOW” campaign, headlined by Aaron Caffarel and Alli Robison.
Caffarel and Robison said Jones and Brister were in violation of the code because the e-mails were unsolicited, asked for support instead of votes and hurt the integrity of the election process.
“This action we feel not only breaks the election code, but it is something that personally hurt us,” Caffarel said.
Jones and Brister said since the “NOW” campaign is still “assisting in the election process,” its members are actively campaigning and by garnering support for “Defining Our Future” campaign, they were effectually asking for votes. They said offending or hurting people is not breaking the election code.
