A pair of errors and untimely hitting plagued the No. 17 LSU baseball team Friday night in a 2-0 loss at Arkansas.
The Tigers (21-9) wasted a strong outing by freshman pitcher Kurt McCune. McCune scattered four hits in 7 2/3 innings. allowing two runs (one earned) with nine strikeouts.
His only mistake came in the sixth inning when first baseman Dominic Ficciello launched a solo home run. The other run came an inning later on a series of miscues.
Arkansas (21-8) shortstop Tim Carver reached on an error by LSU junior first baseman Grant Dozar. Carver moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored after an error by freshman catcher Ty Ross.
LSU failed to capitalize on 10 hits as it stranded 11 runners on base.
Game two of the three game series is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow. Freshman Kevin Gausman will be on the mound for the Tigers.
