The LSU Board of Supervisors has a new student representative to the serve on the Board for a one-year term, according to a Friday news release.
The new representative is Ryan Perkins, a fourth-year medical student at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Perkins was selected for the position over Cody Wells, LSU’s Student Government president, who expressed his desire for the seat during his campaign for SG president.
Perkins, 25, of Houma, is specializing in pediatric medicine at LSUHSC, where he serves as the Student Government Association president.
Perkins will replace student board member Ali Lieberman, of Shreveport, whose term has expired.
Perkins was elected to the board seat at a meeting of LSU System student body presidents on Friday in Baton Rouge. Perkins pledged to “be a champion for students in communicating their concerns to his fellow members of the Board of Supervisors,” the release said.
Charles Zewe, LSU System vice president for communication, said Perkins and Wells were the two students nominated for the position.
Zewe said Perkins and Wells tied with four votes each in the initial election. He said Lieberman cast the tie-breaking vote.
Perkins is scheduled to be sworn in at the board’s scheduled meeting June 3.
