Jerry Ceppos, Dean of the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno, is presumably the next dean of the Manship School of Mass Communication.
Ceppos confirmed that he had accepted an offer from Hamilton this afternoon. “I am excited to accept this opportunity,” he said. Ceppos’ nomination must be required by the Board of Supervisors. Ceppos will visit the school to meet with faculty tomorrow. The Manship faculty voted to give Ceppos tenure and a full professorship, an anonymous faculty member said.
Ceppos is among the five finalists for the deanship position selected by the school’s search committee. The committee met with Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Jack Hamilton on March 30th to discuss the finalists.
Hamilton and Chancellor Michael Martin made the final hiring decision.
Hamilton is the previous Dean of the school. He was not available for comment.
In addition to his present deanship, Ceppos is the former Vice President of News for the Knight Ridder newspaper company and the former executive editor of the San Jose Mercury News.
