East Baton Rouge Parish levees will be closed to unauthorized pedestrians and bicycles beginning 7 a.m. Friday, May 13 and will remain in effect until further notice, according to a news release from the East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor’s Office.
The release said the ban will allow work crews uninterrupted access to monitor the levee for signs of trouble, as well as place sand bags and other flood control devices.
East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden said in the release the ban is “necessary for the safety of the general public.”
Previous bans restricted vehicular access and parking next to the levees.
