The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will open the Morganza Spillway within the next 24 hours, Governor Bobby Jindal announced in a press conference Friday.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development plans to close a three-mile portion of La. 1 that crosses the Spillway for several hours while the Spillway is opened, according to a news release from the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
During the closure, northbound motorists will be re-routed La. 1 to La. 10 to La. 77 to U.S. 190 and southbound will be routed La. 1 to La. 105 to U.S. 190, the release said.
No East Baton Rouge Parish roads will be affected.
