The doubles point turned out to be the dealbreaker once again for the
LSU women’s tennis team.
LSU (1-5) lost to Oklahoma State 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at W.T. ”Dub” Robinson Stadium, falling to 0-5 in matches where they failed to win the doubles point.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead in doubles play, but the Cowgirls (2-6) won the next two matches. The Oklahoma State team of Malika Rose and C.C. Sardinha came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat LSU’s Yvette Vlaar and Kaitlin Burns on Court 2 to clinch the point.
In singles play, junior Whitney Wolf easily defeated Oklahoma State’s Sasha Belova 6-1, 6-0. But LSU couldn’t pull out the deciding match on Court 3. C.C. Sardinha defeated sophomore Keri Frankenberger 6-4, 7-6, giving Oklahoma State the fourth point to clinch the match.
LSU women’s coach Tony Minnis said he expects to shake things up a bit for LSU’s home match against Xavier at 1 p.m. tomorrow
“We got up early again in doubles play, but we let them come back,” Minnis said. “We are going to have to make some changes in our doubles lineup. In singles, though, I thought our effort was good. We just have to bounce back tomorrow.”
