The Board of Regents confirmed Tuesday that the study to analyze the feasibility of merging the University of New Orleans and Southern University-New Orleans has been halted because of a restraining order stating the Board is unconstitutional.
The petition, which was filed on behalf of seven SUNO students, says the Board does not represent the minority interest, as all minority board members were replaced in December, according to the Advocate.
A court hearing is scheduled for Feb. 24 at 1:30 p.m., according to the Advocate.
“Having just received the lawsuit this morning, the Board of Regents is currently reviewing the document, and as is common practice when dealing with litigation, will not be making any comments at this time,” Regents spokeswoman Meg Casper said in a statement.
