The search for a new chancellor for the University of New Orleans has been temporarily suspended, according to an LSU System news release.
“LSU System President Dr. John Lombardi, acting on a recommendation from the university’s national recruiting consultant, and after consultation with the chairman of the search committee, on Tuesday temporarily suspended the search for a new chancellor at UNO,” the release said.
UNO Provost Joe King will take over as both acting chancellor and provost, according to the release.
The release indicates the decision comes after uncertainty about UNO’s future and because of continuing state budget cuts to higher education.
Governor Jindal asked the Board of Regents last month to commission a study about possibly combining UNO, which is in the LSU System, with Southern University New Orleans, which is in the Southern system.
UNO has been hunting for a chancellor since last semester, when Tim Ryan was suddenly removed from the post.
