LSU’s tennis teams have been in high spirits despite tough losses last weekend.
The Lady Tigers (1-4), coming back from a 5-2 loss to Southern Methodist on Feb. 20, will play their first home match of the season Saturday. They’ll face Oklahoma State (1-6) in W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium at 1 p.m, followed by a match against Xavier (3-5) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
LSU women’s coach Tony Minnis said he has been looking forward to playing at home again after a tough road schedule to start the season. It has been difficult to gain momentum playing away from Baton Rouge, Minnis said.
The Lady Tigers have played five road matches in a row since their home opener against Prairie View A&M on Feb. 2 was postponed because of weather.
“I know we’ve had some tough results recently, but I’m actually pleased with the effort we’re giving,” Minnis said. “One area I’d like to see improvement in is doubles, being a little bit sharper and, when we get the opportunity, closing people out.”
The Tigers (3-4) will be back on the road again for the third week in a row after losing to Wake Forest, 4-3, on Feb. 19. They will play No. 14 Texas A&M (7-3) at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
LSU men’s coach Jeff Brown said he was pleased with the Tigers’ effort to fight back against Wake Forest.
Brown said he doesn’t know which LSU team will show up Saturday, but expects Texas A&M to present a tough challenge.
“This team could just as easily beat a top-15 team as it could lose to a top 40,” Brown said. “It just depends on the day.”
