The first new permit for deepwater drilling in the Gulf of Mexico since the BP oil spill has been issued, according to a news release from Gov. Bobby Jindal’s office.
Houston-based Noble Energy is the first company to receive permission after the Obama administration’s moratorium on deepwater drilling.
“This is a good first step,” Jindal said in the release. “But we must quickly get to a level of issuing permits that represents a critical mass so thousands of oil and gas industry workers can get back to work fueling America again.”
