LSU’s starters continue pitching deep into games and the hitters’ bats are still blazing.
The No. 20 LSU baseball team completed its series sweep against Holy Cross with a 15-4 victory Sunday afternoon.
Senior pitcher Ben Alsup gave up two runs, one earned, in six innings of work.
Each LSU starter this weekend threw exactly six innings and surrendered three runs or less.
Junior center fielder Mikie Mahtook smacked his fifth home run of the season, a towering shot to left field, which sailed past the stadium.
Sophomore first baseman Alex Edward went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. Edward pulled his season average up from .250 to .375 with his strong outing at the plate.
Sophomore right fielder Mason Katz smashed two doubles, giving him a team-leading six doubles on the season, and scored two runs.
Junior second baseman Mike Lowery got his first at-bat of the game in the seventh inning after entering for freshman second baseman JaCoby Jones. He went 2-for-2 on the day and is 5-for-6 on the season.
The Tigers outscored the Crusaders, 41-10, during the weekend.
LSU registered at least 10 runs for the fourth straight game. The last time it did that was in 2009, when the Tigers went six straight games with double-digit scoring.
