GRAND CAILLOU, La. (AP) — A school board member says there may soon be funds for a flood-prone Grand Caillou Middle School,.
Board member Roger DeHart tells the Courier everything’s in order and they are optimistic.
The School Board contends FEMA owes it millions of dollars for repairs made to flooded schools after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
After Katrina ravaged schools all along the Gulf Coast, FEMA stepped in to help pay for repairs. Many schools were left in their storm-struck state when FEMA inspectors arrived.
DeHart says Brand Caillou took care of business, because that’s what they thought was best. But it’s caused them all kinds of headaches in getting that money reimbursed.
While FEMA has acknowledged it will pay the school system, it has yet to determine an amount.
