Repairs resulting from Mississippi River flooding earlier this year will cause closures on River Road that could be problematic for students and University football fans, according to a news release from the University.
River Road, or Highway 327, will be closed from Trinity Lane to Ben Hur Road for the next four months.
The closure means change in procedure for Saturday game day traffic.
Southbound traffic on River Road will be diverted to Brighstide Drive, and cars leaving the Hayfield Lot will be forced toward the Gourrier Avenue and Nicholson Road intersection, the release said. Cars will be prohibited from turning onto Gourrier Avenue from River Road.
Game day procedure will remain normal for the rest of River Road, Skip Bertman Drive and the Levee Lots.
Johnson said River Road is closed pass the entrance to Aspen Heights and neighboring residential areas.
Students living at Aspen Heights and other nearby residential areas should not be affected by the closures, said Britney Johnson with Aspen Heights.
The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, with help from the Pontchartrain River District, will be repairing the levee at Duncan Point on the Mississippi River.
The New Orleans Mississippi River and Tributaries System said the “most critical” area is being repaired quickly because it has the highest potential for damage to property and threat to residents.
