Several University buildings were struck with power outages this morning after the electrical feeder for the traffic light on South Stadium Road and Highland Road failed, according to Associate Executive Director of Facility and Utility Operations Bobby Pitre.
The problem is being resolved, and the eight to 10 campus buildings affected should be restored of power within 30 minutes, Pitre said.
James Brown, building coordinator for Williams and Choppin Halls, said their power was quickly restored and someone was stuck in an elevator for a minute or so.
Facility Services sent David Perault, facility maintenance assistant manager, to check all of the elevators. He said once he arrived at Choppin Hall, they were working again.
Perault called the event “a rarity” and said the ongoing construction on campus may have contributed to the outage.
Kasie Dugas, forestry sophomore, said she was in the School of Renewable Natural Resources when the power failed, and she heard the failures extended to Knapp Hall, Efferson Hall and Sturgis Hall.
Power is also currently out at the Frey Computing Services building, and the network is running on a generator, according to ITS’ Facebook page.
