Following in the footsteps of predecessor Patrick Peterson, junior cornerback Morris Claiborne was named as one of five finalists for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, LSU announced Thursday.
The trophy is awarded each year to the National Defensive Player of the Year.
Other finalists include Alabama safety Mark Barron, Boston College linebacker Luke Kuechly, Illinois end Whitney Mercilus and Penn State tackle Devon Still.
Claiborne has started all 10 games this season as the Tigers’ No. 1 corner, racking up 38 tackles, five pass break ups and four interceptions.
The winner will be announced at a gala banquet at the Westin Hotel in Charlotte, N.C. on Dec. 12.
