Most freshmen are still trying to find their way around campus and juggle school life with social life.
Those freshman Malorie Pardo, who’s busy playing as the starting setter for the LSU volleyball team.
Last week, Pardo earned her first collegiate award as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.
Pardo is currently second in the SEC in assists per set and No. 12 in the nation in the same category.
LSU volleyball coach Fran Flory saw Pardo’s potential to make an immediate impact on the court before she even stepped on campus.
“She just had all the intangibles that every player doesn’t have,” Flory said. “We weren’t surprised when she came in and had this impact. I just wasn’t sure how quickly she could learn and be able to run an pushed.”
Pardo’s spot near the top of the SEC assists column didn’t come from the play of Pardo alone.
“The setting position is the most controlled position by everybody else on the team,” Flory said. “When you have your setter performing at that level, she’s making good choices and that’s part of it, but the passers are putting it in her hands, and she’s making good
