The LSU men’s golf team ended its fall campaign in nearly the best way possible Tuesday with a second-place finish at the Isleworth Invitationalat Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla.
The tournament marks the fourth top-10 tournament finish for the Tigers this fall. LSU checked in four strokes ahead of North Florida with an 18-over-par 882 three-day total.
Individually, the Tigers managed two top-20 finishes, with sophomore Andrew Presley tying for 16th with a 5-over-par 221 and freshman Stewart Jolly tying for 20th with a 6-over-par 222.
Senior Sang Yi carded a 7-over-par 223, putting him in a three-way tie for 25th place. This is the only tournament of the four fall competitions that Yi fell out of the top 20 on the individual leaderboard.
Sophomore Landon Lyons tied for 28th place with an 8-over-par 224. Freshman Curtis Thompson rounded out the Tiger’s five-man roster, earning a spot in 40th place.
The Tigers teed off for the tournament’s first round Sunday, which ended with them in a four-way tie. The Tigers combined for a 7-over-par 295 for the day, tying with Augusta State, Florida and Oklahoma State.
Jolly recorded a career-best Monday, as the young Tiger fired a 3-under-par 69. Jolly’s last round of the tournament also improved on his first round 7-over-par 79 score, as he posted a 2-over-par 74 on Tuesday.
Presley tied Thompson in the first round, as the two posted 1-over-pars 73.
Texas freshman Jordan Spieth ran away with the win, as he posted an 11-under-par 205 total. Texas also captured the first place team spot, beating out the Tigers with an 8-under-par 856 combined score.
The team resumes its 2011-12 campaign in February as it travels to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., for the John Hayt Invitational.
