The LSU softball team welcomed the National Pro Fastpitch All-Stars to an exhibition and lost in a decisive 7th inning in front of 1,234 fans at Tiger Park.
Neither team gained a scoring advantage in the early stages of the game due in large part to brilliant defensive performances by both teams. Team NPF pitcher Lisa Norris maintained a no-hitter through the first five innings, and finished the game with 16 strikeouts and surrendered only two hits. For the Tigers, Senior pitcher Brittany Mack threw for seven strikeouts and gave up only two hits.
The scoreless defensive battle continued until Senior outfielder Ashley Langoni finally broke open the score line with a home run in the bottom of the 6th to put the Tigers ahead.
After retiring 17 batters in a row, Mack left the game in the top of the 7th and was replaced by Junior pitcher Rachele Fico.
After a couple of walks and a hit-by-pitch put Team NPF up 2-1, Ashley Charters hit a two-run single that raised the lead two runs and set the final score; Team NPF 4, LSU 1. The Tiger’s next competition is at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge in the annual Fall Collegiate Classic set for the October 15th-16th weekend.
