In women’s basketball coach Nikki Caldwell’s first season at LSU she could have an opportunity many coaches dream about — the ability to start the NCAA Tournament on her home court.
LSU was selected as one of 16 sites to host the first and second rounds of the tournament, an occurrence very familiar to LSU fans. LSU played host to the tournament six times in the last 14 years, the most recent being in 2009.
Miriam Segar, senior associate athletic director, said the Lady Tigers would play in an ideal scenario if they make it into the tournament.
“It’s an advantage to play at home where you’re comfortable and able to sleep in your own beds,” she said. “We have our fans behind us and it gives us a great environment to play community.”
Segar said hosting a event such as this one also has a positive impact on the University.
