Staring up a hill with a slope somewhere between 45 and 90 degrees, junior Brea Goodman ascends into Tunica Hills for the first of many uphill battles.
“Nothing is worse than Tunica,” Goodman said.
This sentiment is shared by the men as well.
“It’s just straight pain,” said junior James Thurn.
The LSU cross country team makes the hour-long trip to Tunica Hills outside of St. Francisville every Wednesday to run 400-meter repetitions up what runners call “Big flat.”
The Tigers also frequent the rolling hills of Highland Road Park. The five Highland hills are dwarfed by the elevation of the dozens of hills in Tunica.

Elliott conceded that sometimes the workouts at Tunica make it difficult to focus on the ride back.
“Some days the work is so hard, they can’t study,” Elliott said.
