The Lady Tigers hit the road traveling to two different locations for the second time this season.
Sophomore Hayley Everett and freshman Paige Bahnsen will head to Nacogdoches, Texas, for the Stephen F. Austin Fall Invitational, which starts at 9 a.m. Friday. Everett squares off against SMU’s Perri Anderson, and Bahnsen takes on SMU’s Erika Marschal. The pair will meet up later in the day in doubles for their match against Alena Erofeyeva and Maartje De Wit from Louisiana Tech.
“This is a great opportunity for me to focus on just two players in a tournament,” said LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson. “It’s going to be a very competitive weekend so I’m excited to see how they compete.”
Seniors Olivia Howlett and Whitney Wolf and junior Kaitlin Burns will represent LSU in the ITA All-American Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
Coach Tony Minnis said that he likes his team’s attitude in practice, but that the Lady Tigers have room for improvement. He said the Lady Tigers need to get tougher mentally, but his confidence remains high.
“I think they’re ready to go,” Minnis said. “This is a good opportunity to go out and play against the best players in the country. The All-American [Tournament] is the most prestigious tournament in college tennis.”
The Lady Tigers will take the courts for the first time since their opening weekend. In that opening weekend, Burns won the consolation flight in singles in the Gopher Invitational in Minneapolis, on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Everett and Bahnsen won their doubles consolation flight in the same tournament.
