University fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon recently received the Buchanan Cup, an award given biennially to chapters that exhibit outstanding leadership and performance qualities.
The chapter was chosen as one of the best of the 240 other chapters around the U.S., landing in the top 10 to 15 percent. This is the second time SigEp has received the award.
“Buchanan Cup-winning chapters are SigEp’s very best,” said Brian Warren, SigEp executive director. “Their members set an example for others to emulate.”
The cup is given based on all aspects of the fraternity from academics and member volunteer involvement to the social calendar and intramurals, said Andrew Leonpacher, SigEp president and mechanical engineering senior.
The Beta Chapter of SigEp has achieved many milestones during its 50-year run at the University, including the highest Greek cumulative GPA on campus for the past 13 semesters.
Leonpacher said the fraternity is proud and will continue to set high standards.
The chapter continually encourages its members to engage in campus leadership positions as well. SigEp member Cody Wells was elected the Student Government president last spring.
The Buchanan Cup was awarded at the Grand Chapter Conclave in Phoenix, Ariz., an event that is open to any delegate from each chapter, Leonpacher said.
