Texas A&M will leave the Big 12 and become the 13th member of the Southeastern Conference effective July 1, 2012, the SEC announced Sunday.
Although the Aggies were voted into the conference Sept. 6, rumors of possible legal action by other Big 12 members delayed an official announcement.
“The Southeastern Conference provides Texas A&M the national visibility that our great university and our student-athletes deserve,” said Texas A&M University President R. Bowen Loftin in a news release. “We are excited to begin competition in the nation’s premier athletic conference.
