The University’s College of Engineering announced Tuesday that Karsten E. Thompson, Ph.D. is the new chairman for the Craft and Hawkins Department of Petroleum Engineering (PETE).
Thompson’s key initiatives include: growing PETE’s research program, increasing visibility for PETE, maintaining the quality of PETE’s undergraduate program and building industry partnerships
Thompson was previously appointed in the University’s Cain Department of Chemical Engineering, where he held the Pressburg Memorial and Lowe Distinguished professorships. He has received numerous teaching and research awards, including the Haliburton Faculty Development Award, the LSU Cross-Holloway Award for Excellence in Research and Teaching, the LSU Engineering Council Professor of the Year Award, the Dow Outstanding Faculty Award and the Tiger Athletic Foundation Teaching Award.
Thompson received his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado in 1989 and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan in 1996.
