NEW ORLEANS (AP) — As a recipient of a 2011 NEA National Heritage Fellowship award, a prestigious honor in folk and traditional arts, Mardi Gras Indian chief Bo Dollis will be the center of attention in Washington, D.C., in September.
Dollis will be honored at a Capitol Hill awards ceremony on Sept. 21 and participate in the National Heritage Fellowships Concert at the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, Md., on Sept. 23. At the concert, Dollis will perform with other members of the Wild Magnolias troupe of Mardi Gras Indians.
