Students, faculty and staff will not be receiving parking permits in time for the start of the fall semester. The Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation said the University’s parking permit provider will not mail the permits until early next week because of a delay in the mailing process, according to a University broadcast email. Students’ permits will still be mailed to their home residence. The Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation will not issue tickets for unregistered vehicles parked in student zones until Sept. 6., the email said. “Students can park in any resident or commuter zones as long they do so legally,” said Gary Graham, director of the Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation, “but vehicles parked in fire zones and other prohibited parking areas will still be ticketed.” The email advised University employees to use current parking permits, which will be honored until Sept. 6. Students and employees who need medical permits can visit the Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation to get a temporary permit. The email advised anyone who has not received a parking permit by Sept. 1 to contact the Office of Parking, Traffic and Transportation to check on the status. Prices of parking permits have also recently increased from $50 to $63 per semester and $100 to $125 for a year. Graham said this increase, like rising costs applied to many student fees, is a scheduled occurrence that will happen approximately every four years over multiple decades’ time.
