LSU junior cornerback Patrick Peterson and coach Les Miles will meet with the media Monday at 11 a.m., according to Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette.
“Les will be there, but the focus will be on Patrick,” Bonnette said.
Miles will talk about Peterson, who is expected to declare for the NFL draft. The AP reported Sunday that Peterson will enter the draft.
But speculation surrounding the rumors linking Miles to the head coaching vacancy at Michigan will be center stage.
“Les will take questions about Patrick but not about anything else,” Bonnette said.
Bonnette had no further news about Miles’ future. Michigan fired third-year coach Rich Rodriguez on Wednesday after a 15-22 record.
Michigan Athletic Director Dave Brandon first turned to former Standford coach Jim Harbaugh, another Michigan alumnus, but Harbaugh accepted the head coaching job with the San Francisco 49ers.
LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva released a statement Saturday following the Tigers’ 41-24 Cotton Bowl win against Texas A&M.
“I have not been contacted by anyone from the University of Michigan about Les Miles. Les Miles is LSU’s head coach and we are going to do everything we can to keep it that way,” Alleva said.
Skip Bertman, former LSU baseball coach and athletic director, hired Miles in 2005.
Bertman told the Detroit Free Press, “This time now for Miles, he has an 7-year-old, a 16-year-old and two boys in between, isn’t the time for him to move.”
“At LSU he makes the $4 million, likes Baton Rouge, likes LSU, and had a really great recruiting class … I don’t think the timing is right for Les Miles,” Bertman said.
But ESPN’s Joe Schad reported Saturday that Michigan is looking to meet with Miles.
Monday will be the first time Miles has spoken out since Friday night’s Cotton Bowl.
