Louisiana Public Broadcasting and TV and radio stations along the Gulf Coast are joining forces to keep tabs on the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
Ten Gulf Coast public TV and radio stations, along with LPB, have launched a new program called “GulfWatch,” which will “examine the environmental, economic, legal and social implications of the massive spill that will be felt for years to come in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida,” according to a news release.
The project, funded by a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, will let stations add more personnel and help with travel expenses to cover more oil-spill related stories. Eighty stories have already been filed as part of GulfWatch, according to the release.
Stations participating in Louisiana include WWNO-FM in New Orleans and KRVS-FM in Lafayette. Other participating stations are WSRE-TV in Pensacola, Fla., WEDU-TV and WUSF-TV in Tampa, Fla., area, WBHM-FM in Birmingham, Alabama and WVAS-FM in Montgomery.
