LSU made a strong showing in the 2011 MLB draft, sending seven players to the majors.
This year’s number of draftees equals the number of Tigers taken in 2010 Draft.
Mike Mahtook, the first and only Tiger to be drafted Monday, was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round. The junior outfielder was the 31st pick overall.
Day two of the draft saw three more Tigers picked, starting with junior pitcher Tyler Jones, drafted in the 11th round by the Minnesota Twins.
Junior pitcher Matty Ott followed, taken in the 13th round by the Boston Red Sox.
Senior pitcher Ben Alsup finished day two for the Tigers, going in the 18th round to the Colorado Rockies.
Day three sent three more Tigers to the majors, starting with Junior shortstop Austin Nola.
Nola — the 949th pick of the draft — was chosen in the 31st round by the Toronto Blue Jays, the same team that drafted his brother Aaron Nola, a senior pitcher from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge and an LSU signee, Tuesday.
Sophomore second baseman Raph Rhymes was taken by the Pittsburg Pirates in the 40th round, while junior third baseman Tyler Hanover went to the Yankees 27 picks later, marking the final draft pick from LSU.
The MLB also drafted eight LSU signees.
