A trend aside from budget cuts and contracts has emerged this semester from the administrative side of the University — search committees.
The biggest shoes the University is vying to fill currently belong to Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Jack Hamilton, who accepted his job on a two-year basis. Hamilton plans to step down at the end of next spring semester and return to the Manship School of Mass Communication, of which he is the former dean.
Not only did the University compose a search committee for Hamilton’s replacement, headed by Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development Thomas Klei, it also contracted Greenwood/Asher & Associates, Inc. Search Firm to find potential clients. Greenwood/Asher will talk to around 500 people for the provost position and then facilitate the interview process.
Greenwood/Asher is earning 33.3 percent of the future provost’s salary. Eric Monday, vice chancellor for finance and administrative services and CFO, said he anticipates the University spending between $75,000 and $150,000 on the search.
Klei and Hamilton said they are seeking a candidate who wants the job permanently.
