LSU junior guard Tim Quarterman will forgo his remaining collegiate eligibility and will enter in the 2016 NBA Draft, LSU confirmed on Monday after the story was first reported by Yahoo Sports’ The Vertical on Sunday night.
Quarterman also confirmed his decision to enter the draft through his Instagram profile on Monday.
The 6-foot-6, 189-pound Quarterman started 27 games for LSU in the 2015-16 season and is LSU’s 11th career leader in assists with 302.
“We are very excited for Tim Quarterman as he continues his life-long dream of having the opportunity to play at the highest level and that is in the NBA,” said LSU coach Johnny Jones in a press release. “We thank him for the three years that he played for us here at LSU and we are excited for the growth he had as a player and his continued development as a person over that time. We are hopeful and prayerful that his dreams will come true.”
Quarterman, a Savannah, Georgia, native, averaged 11.2 points per game in the 2015-16 season, and added 4.6 rebounds per game and 3.6 assists for his career.
Two weeks ago, Quarterman was listed as a late second-round pick in the upcoming draft, according to draftexpress.com, but now is unlisted outside of the first two rounds of the website’s most recent mock draft as of Sunday morning.
In early listings, Quarterman is slated as a high second-round pick in 2017’s draft.
Along with his 302 career assists, Quarterman added 168 turnovers and ranked seventh among Southeastern Conference players with a 2.3 assist-to-turnover ratio clip with 120 assists and 53 turnovers during the 2015-16 season.
The three-year Tiger also added 98 career 3-pointers throughout his 99 total games donned in purple and gold.
He will finish having accumulated 35 double-figure scoring games, including a game-high 27 points he tallied against Georgia on Jan. 10, 2015 and at Houston on Dec. 13, 2015.
