Kappa Sigma Fraternity has obtained approval from the University to begin demolishing its current house on Dalrymple Drive, which was deemed uninhabitable in August 2015, within the next four weeks, according to a news release from The Bautsch Grunewald Group. The demolition will take roughly five to six weeks to complete.
“An inspection of the house done earlier in the year confirmed what many alumni already knew, which was that their house, built in the 1930s, suffered from unsustainable foundation and structural damage,” according to the release.
The fraternity has chosen Milton J. Womack Contractors and architecture firm Bani, Carville & Brown to construct a new 22,000 square foot house over 18 months.
Construction will begin once the House Steering Commission, which consists of fraternity alumni, in partnership with The Bautsch Grunewald Group, finishes raising the $7 million necessary to complete the project.
With more than 700 alumni having already donated, the fundraising project is on track to be completed within the next few months, according to the release.
