In front of what was the programs’ first ever sold out crowd of 13,296, the #4 LSU gymnastics team found themselves overcome with emotion as they defeated the #3 Alabama Crimson Tide.
The night was topped off for the Tigers as Junior Ashleigh Gnat had a perfect score of 10 on the floor routine.
Gnat continued to dominate the night as she led scoring all-around with 39.625 and averaging 9.9 per rotation.
The Peter Maravich Assembly Center was roaring right out of the gate as the Lady Tigers dominated in the first rotation on the vault 49.375 against Alabama’s 48.825 on the uneven bars.
Alabama came into this meet ranked 3rd nationally on the uneven bars, but ultimately that is what cost the Tide the victory and led to the Tigers momentum from the 1st rotation on.
In the 2nd rotation Alabama cut their deficit as Senior Lauren Beers led the way for the Tide with a 9.875 on the vault.
They finished the 2nd rotation with a 49.225 leading their total to 98.05.
But even with an excellent performance put on by Alabama, the Lady Tigers did just that much better in the 2nd rotation as they scored a 49.475 on the uneven bars totaling 98.85 through two rounds.
The 3rd rotation is really when LSU started to pull away as sophomore Erin Macadaeg led the way with a 9.925 on the balance beam
Trailing not far behind on the same event for the Tigers were freshman Sarah Finnegan and sophomore Myia Hambrick who both scored a 9.90.
In the 3rd rotation Alabama just could not turn the tide even with two 9.90 performances on the floor out of sophomore Mackenzie Brannan and junior Katie Bailey.
LSU finished on the floor in the PMAC on the 4th rotation as they always do with crowd roaring final performances out of seniors Jessica Savona with a 9.95 and Randii Wyrick with a 9.90.
Gnat’s perfect 10 was just the icing on the cake on her floor performance as #4 LSU gets their final home win and SEC regular season crown for 2016 as they take down #3 Alabama 197.925-196.125.
