LSU coach Les Miles announced the different locations his team will hold satellite camps at a press conference on Tuesday.
The first nine days of camps will be held in Louisiana. Miles said he wants to get as many Louisiana prospects on campus so they can see the “facilities here”.
“We want to do it best,” Miles said. “Philosophically, 75-80 percent of our roster is from Louisiana. We would’ve taken a site in Florida, we would’ve taken a site in Atlanta…the truth of the matter is, nothing is more important than Louisiana.”
LSU will hold its in-state camps in Shreveport, New Orleans and Baton Rouge. The camp in New Orleans will be hosted at the New Orleans Saints facility.
Miles said the Tigers are partnering with in-state colleges such as University of Louisiana at Lafeyette, Louisiana Tech, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe, among others.
Current University of Texas at San Antonio coach Frank Wilson will be reunited with Miles and company on June 13. The former LSU running backs coach will partner with LSU for a camp in Dallas at DeSoto High School.
In addition to the camp in Dallas, LSU will hold a camp in Houston, at Episcopal High School and North Shore Senior High School on June 14.
“I’m very pleased with the schedule we have thus far,” Miles said. “[I’m] looking forward to getting on the road and going I think it’s going to be fun.”
Miles said he plans to attend all camps this summer.
Other notes:No decision made on Teuhema’s suspension, game time for LSU vs. Wisconsin set
Miles also gave an update on suspended junior defensive end Sione Teuhema. On April 4, the 6-foot-4, 251 pound defensive lineman was suspended and sat out most of the spring and he was previously suspended during the 2015-16 season.
Teuhema will take a class in the summer, but Miles said the decision “is up to him” on if he will return to the team.
Gametime for LSU’s season opener for Wisconsin is set for 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcasted by ABC on Sept. 3rd.
It’ll only be the fourth time a college football game will be held at Lambeau Field, with the three other games previously occurring in 1983, 1982 and 1960.
The Southeastern Conference announced a new collaborative process for instant replays beginning next season. Having a central location to give officials as many views possible for officials is something Miles said is probably “best”.
