At the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, at Notre Dame, three Tigers and Lady Tigers qualified for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships and four set personal-bests on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers set a school-record in the distance medley relay with a time of 11 minutes, 5.34 seconds and took the No. 12 spot in the NCAA, beating their previous best time of 11 minutes, 16.92 seconds. The record-breaking team featured junior distance runner Morgan Schuetz, freshman middle distance runner Hollie Parker, junior sprinter Travia Jones and sophomore distance runner Hannah Deworth.
Schuetz also set a personal best in the women’s 800-meter race on Saturday with a time of 2 minutes, 4.05 seconds to finish second in the event and ninth nationally. Her previous career-best was 2 minutes, 4.53 seconds.
Parker and Deworth both achieved career-bests in the women’s 800 meter event. Parker had a personal-bests of 2 minutes, 8.46 seconds to finish ninth, while Deworth placed in the No. 15 spot with 2 minutes, 10.95 seconds.
The men’s distance relay team finished in the No. 12 spot overall with a time of 9 minutes, 35.90 seconds with the team made up of senior sprinter Cyril Grayson, junior middle distance runner Blair Henderson, sophomore middle distance runner Jack Wilkes and freshman middle distance runner Dajour Braxton.
Grayson also had a personal-best of 46.51 seconds in the men’s 400-meter dash to finish third in the event and made the NCAA’s Top 10 rankings as No. 10. Henderson finished second in the men’s 800 meter with 1 minute, 47.86 seconds and Wilkes finished in the No. 15 spot overall with a time of 1 minute, 54.13 seconds.
