Fresh from California, Wavves and Best Coast descend to New Orleans’ historic Joy Theater, accompanied by Cherry Glazerr.
Justly entitled “Summer Is Forever II,” this Wavves and Best Coast joint tour is the second coming of the first “Summer Is Forever” in 2011. Following the release of Best Coast’s California Nights and Wavves’s V, the bands are traveling the U.S. and bringing with them a bubbly, catchy-as-hell style of indie rock.
Best Coast formed in 2009 in Los Angeles. California Nights is their third record. Fronted by Bethany Cosentino, the duo takes influences from ’60s pop rock and lo-fi garage. One can see inspiration from The Beatles and The Beach Boys in their music, as well as the more contemporary Blink-182 and Weezer.
Wavves is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Nathan Williams. He’s from San Diego and V is obviously his fifth album. He serves up loud, “beachy” rock that would fit in perfectly at any hipster’s spring break party. The band also is influenced by pop rockers of the ’60s and punk rockers of later decades.
Best Coast and Wavves are a great combination: They both play upbeat indie rock. They’re both from California. They grew up listening to the same music and experiencing the similar things. The lead singers of each band are even in a very public relationship. And this is their second tour together.
